The waning gibbous moon (5 days after full) rose in the NE sky within Gemini. With my camera handheld to the 40mm eyepiece of the 8.5" F/7 dobsonian I took this image using manual mode. It was very difficult using an un driven scope and a camera with a 10X optical zoom fixed lens but I got a result showing the heavily cratered lunar southern highlands. The terminator was very impressive tonight, the bright crater as centre is Tycho with a section of its ejecta ray system visible. Above Tycho is Clavius with its detailed western wall. Image is straight from the camera and unprocessed. Time = 01.00 LT. Oct 13th 2006. |
